In a world that often emphasizes unrealistic beauty standards, influencers like Abby Bible play a crucial role in promoting self-love and body positivity.
Despite facing occasional negativity, the 25-year-oldâs commitment to maintaining a positive attitude and celebrating her love for fashion sends a powerful message to her followers.
The 6-foot-1 woman, and size 22 influencer, often explains on her Instagram that she refuses to conform to societyâs âtoxicâ expectations.
When I was a teenager, I thought I would never be considered âfeminineâ because the media always shows us that we should be tiny, delicate, adorable, and quiet. This idea became a part of me over time, making me believe that being feminine was the only way to be attractive and deserving of a happy life, says a woman from New York. âIâve been gradually breaking away from these harmful beliefsâŚâ
Bible shared her story on Dr. Phil about body positivity and how she has dealt with weight issues since she was a kid. She mentioned, âWhen I was 14, I weighed around 200 pounds. I had a personal trainer who wasnât very kind. They would say that if I wanted to have friends, I needed to lose weight, and that nobody would love me if I was overweight.â
At one time, Bible mentioned that she dropped 100 pounds and was around 235 pounds. However, she said that losing the weight didnât fix any of her issues, and she still felt unhappy even though she had the body that many people desired.
Now, the woman whoâs in a loving relationship, is on a mission to remind others that plus-size bodies are âhotâ and âlook good in a bikini.â
âLook awayâ
In a recent TikTok video thatâs hit the eyes of more than 82,000 netizens, Bible is seen wearing a red string bikini, responding to a troll who says, âfat people shouldnât wear string bikinis.â
âIf you donât like it, look away,â she captions the clip, where she playfully gazes into the camera and mouths, âI donât care.â
Many fans showed incredible support and shared their appreciation for this inspiring woman. One fan said, âI got my first bikini because of you. No joke!â Another fan added, âYou look fantastic! I wish I had that kind of body confidence too.â
Tucked between the messages of support are the online trolls, many suggesting she lacks self-respect.
âWell, you should care, thatâs disrespectful to yourself,â writes one. A second asks, âWhereâs your self-respect?â And another offers some advice, âIâm a big [woman] and I say, just because they make it in our size doesnât mean [you] need to wear it. have some respect for yourself.â
Crippling complications
And though the âunapologetic fashion loverâ consistently wows her followers with her fabulous fashion, she continues to be the target of trolls âhating on individuals with larger bodies.â
But it might go deeper than people simply body shaming the lovely woman, whose weight makes her vulnerable to a host of medical problems.
One Facebook user commented, âI can see that sheâs really putting a lot of stress on her heart and joints, but thatâs her decision!â They also added, âThe real concern is when other health issues come up, like diabetes, because it just makes our struggling healthcare system even more overwhelmed!â
A second netizen shares, âI donât have a problem with body positivity unless itâs promoting a body composition with very serious health risks as the new normal.â
I really believe in the importance of inner beauty and that everyone should be able to wear whatever they want. However, Iâm worried that she might face serious health problems like diabetes, heart issues, and joint pain. The comment goes on to say, âI hope she can still feel good about herself if she ends up in a wheelchair or stuck in bed. Itâs really sad that she doesnât realize how her choices are hurting her health.â
The Bible, which hasnât ignored the health worries of its readers, reminds everyone, âBeing thin doesnât make you superior to me.â
She adds, âI am an unapologetic fat girlâŚYou can take it or leave it because Iâm always going to be happy with myself.â
In the end, what really counts is happiness. If Bible believes she has found it, we just hope her health lets her keep feeling happy.
